Aurelien Darbellay

Maria and Aurélien come from different and complementary horizons. She fell in love with dance and movement when a little girl; he was born crazy about rhythm and music. They both discovered lindy hop in Barcelona, the city they adopted as their home. They started dancing together a bit more than three years ago and, nowadays, they are full time dancers and teachers in Barcelona. Both in their daily training and in their classes, they focus on musicality, creativity, rhythm and flow. They are co-founders of backbeat, an association promoting swing dancing and music in Geneva (Switzerland), which organizes monthly workshops and a yearly international festival, the shaKe that laKe. ESDC 2015 was their first international competition. They were awarded the 2nd prize in the Open Classic Showcase Division for their routine danced to Catherine Russell’s rendition of the Darktown Strutters’ Ball. More recently, they’ve been sucessfull in the festival Lindylicious (Paris), where they won the 1st prize in the Showcase category, and 2nd prize in the Strictly Lindy. They’ve also placed several times as Jack and Jill competitors in internationally renewed festival (ESDC, Swim Out Costa Brava, Move Your Bottom, Lindylicious etc.).
